Thought you’d be interested in connecting these dots. Dr. Eric Topol is the head of the Cleveland Clinic Heart Program and was Provost and Chief Academic Officer at the Medical School. The Cleveland Clinic is the world’s preeminent heart center. Dr. Topol is the main voice behind raising the question as to whether VIOXX from Merck was safe. His testimony has been a huge bombshell in the Merck Vioxx scandal currently in litigation in thousands of suits. Even just a few weeks ago he spoke out again against Merck’s “studies”.
Yesterday the WSJ reported that he had been stripped of his positions at the Medical School. See below.
How are we to be expected to trust the Thimerosal/vaccine studies when the Vioxx case so clearly proves that the companies will lie, cheat, revise information and withhold death reports to convince the FDA and the public that the drugs are safe?
Maybe we crazy parents don’t look so paranoid any longer?
QUOTES DIRECTION FROM the Wall Street Journal, Page D6, 12/13:
“Dr. Eric Topol, the chief of the Cleveland Clinic heart program who blew the whistle on Merck’s Vioxx studies has been stripped of his post as Provost and Academic Chief at the Cleveland Clinic. He retains his title as Chairman of the department of cardiovascular medicine. Merck’s former chief executive, Raymond Gilmartin, was reported to have said to Malachi Mixon, chairman of the Clinic trustees “What has Merck ever done to the Cleveland Clinic to warrant this?””
What? Mixon thinks Dr. Topol blew the whistle as a vendetta? You lied Merck, You got caught Merck!
A clinic official says his loss of these prestigious titles has nothing to do with his having spoken out against Merck and VIoxx. And here comes Santa Claus down my chimney.
Kim, Mom to three autistic girls
Here’s the address at the clinic if you’d like to drop either gentleman a note of support (Topol) or a raspberry (Cosgrove.)
